The Criminal Code was adopted in 2017 alongside five other Acts, designed to replace the Civil Code, 2021.

It outlaws the practice of Chhaupadi as was as the evangelization of citizens to other religions.

Establishes that in case local authorities receive information that a person or group is about to commit an act listed under Section 3 of these Rules, this shall be regarded as a reasonable ground to believe that the sovereignty, integrity and public tranquillity of Nepal may be harmed immediately. Also provides for issuing of detention orders, submission of petitions by persons feeling aggrieved by such orders, and for power to revise and invalidate orders.

No person who is in detention shall be tortured; torture is defined as "cruel, inhuman, or insulting treatment" of a person. Persons who were tortured may file for compensation at a district court.
