The Regulations provide for the superannuation of staff who transfer on 1 April 1996 from employment with the abolished local authorities to employment with the new authorities or other specified public authorities.

    Amends the Local Government (Compensation for Premature Retirement) Regulations 1982 which allow employers to compensate in certain cases persons who are pensionable under the local Government Superannuation Regulations 1986 and who have ceased their employment through redundancy or in the interest of the efficiency of their employing authorities, by the award of additional years. Regulations 3 and 4 provides widowers with similar benefits to those available to widows. Regulations 5 and 6 provide that children of female beneficiaries have the same entitlement to children's compensation as the children of male beneficiaries.

    Amends the Social Security Act 1975 and the Social Security (Severe Disablement Allowance) Regulations 1984. Regulation 2 provides that for the purposes of section 36(4) of the Act those living abroad serving in the armed forces, and their families, shall be treated as being resident and present in Great Britain. Regulation 3 specifies the circumstances under which a person shall be treated under section 36A of the Act as having qualified for severe disablement allowance.
