    These Regulations amend the Flexible Working (Eligibility, Complaints and Remedies) Regulations 2002 (S.I. 2002/3236). They supplement the 2006 Regulations and insert two further categories of adult in the definition of "relative" which had been intended to be included in the 2006 Regulations.

    These Regulations give workers a statutory entitlement to annual leave with pay. They apply to all workers over compulsory school age, with certain exceptions (regulation 3). By virtue of the Annual Leave (Agency Workers and Trainees) Order 2007, "worker" for this purpose includes agency workers and certain trainees.

    Made under Employment Rights Act 1996. Provides for new rights to paternity and adoption leave in the case of adoption from overseas. Applies Paternity and Adoption Leave Regulations 2002 to overseas adoptions, with some modifications regarding entitlement to leave. Overseas adoption is adoption of child who enters Great Britain from outside UK in connection with or for purposes of adoption, which does not involve placement of child for adoption under law of any part of the UK.

    Amends Police Regulations by reducing number of days that a member of the police force may be absent from duty without a certificate of unfitness from 10 to 6 days. Also provides for new rates of annual leave for established as well as unestablished officers.

    Amends the 1998 Regulations by inserting a new regulation 5A, limiting the working time of young workers to 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week and requiring employers to ensure that these limits are complied with. Also inserts a new regulation 6A, which requires employers to ensure that no young worker works during a restricted period.

    Regulates paternity and adoption leave as provided for in the Employment Act 2002. Right to leave is available to employees with 26 weeks of qualifying service. Employee has option of taking either one week's leave or two consecutive weeks' leave. Leave may only be taken within 56 days of child's birth or placement with adopter. Employee is obliged to notify employer of intention to take leave and of choice in respect of available options.

    Amend provisions of the Working Time Regulations 1998.
    Regulation 13 is amended to provide that the amount of leave to which a worker is entitled in a leave year is four weeks, except in the case (provided for in paragraph (5) of the regulation) where a worker's employment begins after the start of a leave year. Spent provisions concerning the amount of leave to which a worker was entitled in leave years beginning before 23rd November 1999 are revoked. The provisions of regulation 13 limiting entitlement to annual leave to workers who have been continuously employed for thirteen weeks are also revoked. References to regulation 13 elsewhere in the Regulations are modified to take account of the fact that both paragraph (1) and paragraph (5) will apply in some cases.

    A new regulation 15A is inserted, limiting the extent to which a worker is able to exercise his entitlement to leave during the course of his first year of employment. The amount of leave a worker may take at any time is limited to the amount that he has "accrued" at that time; accrual is at the rate of one-twelfth of the annual entitlement at the beginning of each month.

    This Order is made only for purposes corresponding to those of the Statutory Sick Pay Act 1991. It amends the law relating to the arrangements under which employers are reimbursed for the statutory sick pay which they pay to their employees. Article 3(1) reduces from 100 per cent to 80 percent the amounts of statutory sick pay which employers can recover from their remittances of national insurance contributions and Article 4 provides for relief for small employers.

Removes certain restrictions on working hours and conditions for women in factories, mines and quarries. Also, inter alia, provides for the issue of codes of practice on the elimination of discrimination and the promotion of equality between men and women in the field of employment.

    Insolvency Act 1986 (Chapter 45)

    Consolidates the enactments relating to insolvency and winding up of companies (including those that are not insolvent, and unregistered companies) and insolvency and bankruptcy of individuals. It contains provisions regarding, inter alia, the power to make over assets to employees and preferential debts. Schedule 6 appended to the Act lists the categories of preferential debts. Social security contributions are category 3; contributions to occupational pension schemes make up category 4; and remuneration, etc., of employees constitutes category 5. The Schedule sections entitled "Interpretation for category 5" specify that remuneration includes: a guarantee payment under section 12(1) and the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978; payments for time off for trade union duties, ante-natal care or looking for work under that Act; redundancy compensation awarded under section 101 of the Employment Protection Act 1975; remuneration payable to a person on sick leave or holiday leave; and accrued holiday remuneration.
