    Provides for a 1 percent wage increase for committee members starting from the 1st January 1999, and a 2 per cent raise starting from 1 January 2000. Stipulates that these raises are also to be taken into consideration in calculating allowances for cost of living increases and pensions.

    Amends the acts providing for the public instruction service so as to permit candidates who are ill - and have medical certificates to prove it - to begin their training programmes as soon as they are physically able to do so. Also stipulates that priority is to be given to those possessing the Educational Institute's certificate when deciding amongst candidates invited to serve under contract during the school year 2000-2001.

    Act No 91(I) of 2000 to amend the act concerning hotels and tourists' residences (boards and lodgings).

    Amends S. 10A of the basic act, providing that each client is to be assessed a 3 per cent surcharge, designed to cover the costs of the services that have been rendered to him. This percentage is to be collected and paid to employees every three months by the hotel owner. Provisions are also included specifying penal and disciplinary sanctions in the event of non compliance.

    Amends S. 5 of the basic act, stipulating that the Selection Committee may not appoint a candidate who has been convicted for a penal offence or is under a suspended penal procedure for a crime concerning lack of honesty, or moral depravity, or has previous service in the Public Education Service that has been evaluated as unsatisfactory.

    Law No 52(I) of 2000 providing for the increase of wages and pensions for public servants and public pensioners.

    Provides for the increase of wages and pensions in the public sector. Starting on 1 January 1999, the basic wage is to be increased by 1 per cent; the minimum raise is 22 pounds per year. From 1 January 2000, wages are to be increased by another 2 per cent and the minimum raise is 44 pounds per year. These increases are also taken into consideration in calculating allowances for increases in the cost of living, as well as pensions.

    Ordinary officers and policemen under the age of forty serving in special forces at the date of entry into force of this Act shall have the right to be candidates for registration or appointment to the Force.

    Law No. 100(I) of 16 July 1999 to provide for the recognition of military service during the Second World War of employees of legal bodies of public law as time of service for their retirement.

    Concerns employees of legal bodies of public law appointed on or after 3 September 1939 and who completed their military service in the Cypriot or in the British Army from 3 September 1939 to 15 August 1945. For those who left the service before the entry into force of this Act, retirement pension shall be adjusted proportionally.

    Law No. 67(I) of 18 June 1999, to amend the Laws of 1995 to 1999 concerning the procedure of employment of extra staff in the Public Service and Public Education Service.

    Provides that persons employed in the public service or pubic education service whose appointment in a permanent post have been or are in the process of being cancelled by the Supreme Court can be employed as extraordinary staff in their respective service until the end of the procedure. At the end of this extraordinary employment period, such a person's employment shall be terminated and they shall have no right to claim any compensation.

    Amends all Acts concerning the Army of the Republic from 1990 to 1997 and all Regulations concerning the officers serving the Army of the Republic with regard to nominations, scale, hierarchy, promotions, and discharge from 1990 to 1996. Provides for the requirements and for the qualifications of candidates and special provisions concerning hierarchy and pension matters.

    Law No. 100(I) of 1998 to amend the Law concerning the professional rehabilitation of persons and children of persons restricted from travelling [from the Turkish zone].

    Amends s. 2 and 3 of the Act 55(I) of 1997. Ten percent of the vacant posts in the public sector, except in public education, shall be filled with priority given to candidates who claim to be persons or children of persons unable to travel from the Turkish zone of Cyprus and who have all the necessary qualifications corresponding to the job description. The result of any written or oral examination for these posts shall not be taken into consideration, except in cases where such persons already occupy more than 10 percent of the posts.

    Law No. 73(I) of 1998 to amend the Law concerning the evaluation of candidates to be employed in the public service.

    In addition to the provisions of the Public Service Act, provides for a written examination for the candidates to be employed in the Public Service during 1998. If the procedure for filling the vacancies by evaluating the candidates with a written examination has started before the entry into force of the present Act, it shall continue and be concluded in accordance with this Act. Provides for other procedural matters.

    Law No. 28(I) of 1998 concerning the filling of vacancies in the public service (special provisions).

    Provides for the filling of vacancies in conformity with the decision of the Supreme Court, and concerns candidates who have been employed in the public service on a daily and full-time basis for at least three years up to 26 September 1998. Provides also for the powers of the Public Service Committee with regard to special cases of assignment of candidates to vacant posts outside of the normal procedure for evaluation. In such cases the candidate shall be considered to have been appointed since 25 January 1991.

    Act No. 74(I) of 1997 to amend Acts concerning agricultural insurance.

    Specifies the meaning of the term "hazard" and provides for the right to a lump-sum in the event of a damage caused by ice, continuous of rain, hot-dry air or flood. The amount to be paid is calculated, according to the product and the total of the damage, ranging between 20 per cent and 75 per cent.

Concerns 10 per cent out of the total of civil service posts. Amends Act concerning defendants, disabled, disappeared, prisoners and their professional future.

    Law No. 52(I) of 1997 to amend the Laws relating to the procedure for employment of temporary personnel in both private and public education services.

    Amends Section 2 of the basic Act. Public service concerns all services of the public sector except those of the Armed Forces, of the National Guard, of the Police, of Justice, of the Teaching service and of the services under an independant authority of the State. In the last two cases the exception concerns both temporary and stable personnel.
