Merchant Shipping (Seafarers) (Hours of Work) (Amendment) Regulation 1998 (L.N. 102 of 1998). Adoption: 1998-02-17 | CHN-1998-R-49406 Extends the application of the principal regulations to ships of all sizes, except fishing vessels. Hours of rest for seafarers performing watch duties shall be 10 hours for every 24 hours, and such rest shall not be divided into more than two periods, one of which shall be at least six hours in length. Gives effect to 1995 amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978.

Merchant Shipping (Seafarers) (Hours of Work) Regulation (L.N. 578 of 1995) (Cap. 478D). - Adoption: 1995-12-16 | CHN-1995-R-43204 Gives effect to Merchant Shipping (Minimum Standards) Convention 1976 (ILO Convention No. 147). Requires employers or masters of ships of 500 GRT or over to ensure that seafarers do not engage in watchkeeping duties except in emergency situations. In such cases, masters or employers shall ensure that seafarers performing such duties are adequately rested.
