Second Region

Renews for Great Britain until June 1990 the powers under section 1 of the Employment Subsidies Act 1978, which would otherwise not be exercisable after 31 December 1988. Section 1 of the Act authorises the Secretary of State to make payments to employers enabling them to retain in employment persons who might otherwise become unemployed, to take on new employees and generally to maintain or enlarge their labour force.
