Second Region

Comprehensive legislation on cooperative societies. Applies to societies not confined to one State and serving the interests of members in more than one State. Seeks to facilitate voluntary formation and democratic functioning of cooperatives as people's institutions based on self-help and mutual aid, and to enable them to promote their economic and social betterment and functional autonomy. Comprises 15 parts. Part 1 contains preliminary provisions. Part 2 regulates central registration and registration, Part 3 registration and functions of federal cooperatives, Part 4 rights and duties of members, Part 5 direction and management, Part 6 privileges of cooperative societies, and Part 7 properties and funds of cooperative societies. Part 8 provides for audit, inquiry and surcharge, Part 9 for settlement of disputes, Part 10 for winding-up of cooperative societies, Part 11 for execution of decrees, orders and decisions, Part 12 for appeals and review, Part 13 for societies which become multi-state cooperative societies consequent on reorganisation of States, and Part 14 for offences and penalties. Finally, Part 15 contains miscellaneous provisions.
