Abstract/Citation: Prohibits employment of seafarers who do not possess a valid medical fitness certificate within 2 years of the Regulation coming into operation. Seafarers aggrieved by the refusal of a medical practitioner to issue them a certificate may apply to the Superintendent to have their cases reviewed (s. 11). Provision is made for a Hong Kong ship to be detained if, due to the failure of any seafarer to produce a valid medical fitness certificate, it cannot sail without serious risk to the safety or health of those on board (s. 13). Gives effect in part to the Merchant Shipping (Minimum Standards) Convention 1976 (ILO convention No. 147).
