Abstract/Citation: Under the Act, as last amended by Act No. 942 of 23 Dec. 1986, the woman has the right to take leave four weeks before the planned delivery. After the birth the parents have 24 weeks of leave which they may share in the following way: the first 14 weeks after the birth shall be used by the mother; however, the two weeks immediately after the birth or after the child comes home can be used by both parents. The father has the right to take leave for a maximum of 10 weeks. An employee cannot be dismissed for requesting parental leave. The same rules apply in relation to adoptive children.
