Understanding the gender composition and experience of ready-made Garment (RMG) workers in Bangladesh

This publication highlights key findings of a study commissioned by ILO’s Improving Working Conditions in the Ready-Made Garment Sector in Bangladesh (RMGP) Programme and UN Women Bangladesh.

The Issue Brief analyses the current composition of the labour force in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector and explores the factors that affect women and men from joining, continuing and leaving jobs in this industry.

Based on its findings, the study recommends policies, programmes and practices that are required to ensure gender equality in the ready-made garment industry so that the benefits of sectoral and economic growth are enjoyed equally by both women and men employed in the sector.
