NTVQ Level-1 training program assessments take place

Assessments of pilot training initiatives within the Tourism and Hospitality Sector take place.

Assessment events took place in July 2016 for ILO supported pilot training initiatives within the Tourism and Hospitality Sector. Around 300 students participated in training and one-month industry placements in hotels such as Radisson, 6 Seasons, Westin, Le Meridien, Regency and Amari.

The 360 hours’ training programs focused on four occupations within the Tourism and Hospitality sector, facilitated by the Bangladesh Skills for Employment and Productivity (B-SEP) Project of the International Labour Organization, funded by the Government of Canada.  The four occupations within the Tourism and Hospitality Sector are Cooking, Food and Beverage Servicing, Housekeeping and Tour Guiding.

The training was based on the new National Technical and Vocational Qualification Framework (NTVQF) curriculum.  These were the first institutions to adopt the new quality assurance guidelines and deliver the new competency based programs in this sector.

Approximately 60 assessors have been trained based on the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) Qualifications standards by ILO in collaboration with the Industry Skills Council and BTEB.  The assessments are now being administered for the new quality framework by the newly certified assessors from the industry.  This is part of the holistic effort to ensure that the industry is involved in the skills development process so they then get graduates qualified to meet their needs.

ILO’s B-SEP Project aims to make skills in Bangladesh nationally recognized, accessible to all, higher quality and directly linked to jobs.
