Supporting the alignment of the national labour legislation with the International and EU labour standards

Ivan Nagornyak, Counsellor of the Deputy Prime-Minister on European and Euro-Atlantic integration

I’ve participated in the sitting of the EU-ILO Project Steering Committee “Towards safe, healthy and declared work in Ukraine”. The role of the project in technical assistance for the analysis of legislative initiatives of the Government and the Verkhovna Rada for their compliance with EU Directives and ILO Conventions on Labour is difficult to overestimate.

Nowadays, the EU is implementing a so-called “social pillar” – a series of initiatives designed to improve the situation of working population. Sooner or later, we will have to keep up with these modern EU acquis. Therefore, it is important to maintain the implementation of the Agreement in this area and provide preventive mechanisms that will not allow initiatives that contradict it.

Thank you, Antonio Santos, for the invitation and productive communication."

It is an excellent organization [ILO] with a reputation, that is delivering the experience to the public sector. The main thing now is their implementation by the public sector."

The EU-ILO Project provides us with necessary information support – we receive reliable first-hand information on the main changes.

The last two years were very fruitful! Despite the online format, Antonio Santos’ speeches at our OSH forums were equally emotional and heated, timely and substantial – his messages were heard in many parts of Ukraine.

We work together on the content of the magazine. Inter alia, in 2021, Antonio Santos and his article “New draft law on OSH – which “red lines” cannot be crossed?” became the cover story of May magazine. This issue caused a great stir – even the editorial stock was re-ordered and sold out.

For me, cooperation with ILO specialists means practical advice, timely tips and an opportunity to talk about the important changes on the “Labour Protection and Fire Safety” information platform."
