From Antwerp to Qatar: The long road to decent work in the construction sector

From the building of infrastructure for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar to the complex construction projects in the port of Antwerp, almost daily we hear reports of unsafe working conditions, human trafficking and forced labour. In some cases Belgian companies and their subcontractors are part of the problem, but, as the story of Qatar shows, they can also be part of the solution.

This study day highlights the efforts of Belgian civil society and trade unions from Belgium and Nepal, the Belgian government and the ILO to improve working conditions on major construction projects. External experts, including from the ILO, and policy makers take stock of these complex issues.

This seminar is an initiative of the KU Leuven Research Chair on Decent Work and SDGs, in collaboration with ACV-CSC International, ACV-CSC BIE, WSM and ILO-Brussels.
