Report launch: ILO World Social Protection Report 2017-19

Social protection plays a key role in achieving sustainable development, promoting social justice and realizing the human right to social security for all. The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) reflect the universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. SDG 1.3 commits all countries to “implement nationally appropriate social protection systems for all, including floors” for reducing and preventing poverty.

This ILO flagship report uses new global, regional and country data to provide an overview of current trends in social protection systems, presenting the state of social protection following a life-cycle approach. It also offers new estimates on effective social protection coverage, thereby providing the 2015 baseline for the SDG indicator 1.3.1.
