On 30 September and 1 October 2015, the ILO and the European Commission (EC) held their 12th annual high-level meeting. The meeting was co-chaired by ILO Deputy Director-General for Field Operations and Partnerships Gilbert Houngbo, and the Director-General of DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the EC, Michel Servoz.

The meeting provided the opportunity to discuss mutual challenges and policy priorities. The conclusions point to an enhanced coordination to promote social justice, decent work and international labour standards in the EU, in third countries and in the framework of the global agenda.

The EC and ILO also agreed to further embark on joint initiatives and to intensify their exchanges, in particular on jobs, growth and investment, youth employment, the informal economy, migration, working conditions, social dialogue, labour statistics as well as long-term trends in the world of work.

The EC expressed strong interest to be involved in the ILO centenary initiative on the Future of Work, launched by the ILO Director-General last June.

Both institutions reaffirmed their partnership and commitment to closely work together on issues of common concern in the year ahead.
