  1. Employers’ perspectives towards domestic workers in Kuwait: a qualitative study on attitudes, working conditions and the employment relationship

    To improve the living and working conditions of domestic workers in Kuwait – by developing more informed policies and effective advocacy and awareness programs – the attitudes of employers towards domestic workers must be better understood. The research upon which this report is based aimed to explore general attitudes and perceptions of employers towards domestic workers, as well as develop a better understanding of actual working practices and the employment relationship between employers and domestic workers.

    This working paper presents the findings of a qualitative study of employer attitudes. In order to identify key themes related to the recruitment of migrant domestic workers (MDWs), employers’ behavioural attitudes towards such workers and knowledge of their rights, 20 semi-structured interviews were conducted with employers and senior managers of recruitment agencies. A focus group with senior managers of recruitment agencies was also conducted.

  5. Yemen Labour Force Survey 2013-2014

    The Labour Force Survey (LFS) for Yemen was carried out by the Central Statistical Organization of Yemen under the supervision of Ministry of Labour and with the assistance of the ILO. The LFS generated representative data on employment, unemployment and other vital labour indicators at the national level and at the level of governorates of Yemen. The survey also provides information on income from employment and characteristics of former household members who are living abroad, and persons participating in training programs outside of the regular educational system.

  7. Regional Dialogue on Market Impact of Syrian Refugee Crisis in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt: summary report and conclusions

    The countries neighbouring Syria and hosting large numbers of refugees are struggling to find an appropriate response to the labour market impact of the massive refugee influx. With no or limited legal access to work, Syrian refugees are working informally which is putting increasing pressure on already vulnerable local labour markets, causing further deterioration of working conditions and wages and leading to growth of informal economies of host countries.

  10. Workshop Report: Regional Training on Livelihoods and Child Labour

    The ILO project “Combating child labour through skills and livelihoods training for older children” is implementing training workshops in each of the project countries through a number of activities which will develop capacity of local partners. To this end, a new resource manual on skills and livelihoods training for older children has recently been produced. On the basis of this manual, a four-day regional training was offered in Amman, Jordan, to participants from several Arab countries, from 8 to 11 June of 2015.
