ILO and UAE to launch new labour market governance project in the UAE

Project aims to improve labour market information systems and governance in the Gulf state.

Under the attended patronage of the UAE’s Minister of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE) Saqer Ghabash and ILO Regional Director for Arab States Ruba Jaradat, the strategic technical cooperation project titled Innovation Labour Market Governance will be officially launched in Abu Dhabi on 23 May.

Through the project, the ILO will be working with the Ministry to improve labour market information systems and labour governance by upgrading information and inspection systems, as well as implementing mechanisms for dispute resolution.

The programme aims to strengthen labour market governance of the MoHRE in three key areas:
  1. Upgrading the existing Labour Market Information System (LMIS) to orient labour market policies and monitor progress against objectives;
  2. strengthening labour inspection system to improve labour working conditions and occupational safety and health; and
  3. improving labour dispute prevention and settlement system to improve access to justice.
