    Oman institutes its first unemployment insurance scheme

    Through a royal decree, Oman institutes a long-awaited unemployment insurance scheme, developed by the Public Authority for Social Insurance with support from the ILO.

  7. COVID-19: The multiple and protracted crises impacting labour markets in Arab States- A regional initiative

    Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ILO in the Arab States has been leading a regional initiative to better understand the impact of the crisis on vulnerable workers, including Syrian refugees and host community members and on enterprises. This is being done through a series of rapid assessments conducted jointly with humanitarian and development partners in Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon - three Arab States which host a large number of Syrian refugees.

  10. ILO Response to the Beirut Blast: A decent work approach for quick recovery and job creation

    On August 4 2020, a massive explosion ripped through the Port of Beirut, killing hundreds of people and leaving thousands more injured and homeless. The ILO response programme contributes to the UN Flash Appeal under the Emergency Response Framework to address the consequences of the explosion, from immediate needs to recovery and reconstruction.
