    Emergency Start and Improve Your Business (E-SIYB) Project: getting people back to work through re-starting and starting businesses

    20 June 2008

    As part of a wider UN response to the earthquake, the ILO focuses on livelihoods recovery, under the broad theme of ‘helping people to get back to work’. Responding to a Government request, the ILO, with financial support by the UK Department for International Development, will provide targeted assistance to re-establishing at least 1,000 destroyed small businesses and setting up 700 new ones for those who lost their jobs.

    Support to Promote and Apply ILO Convention No. 111

    The project aims to promote compliance with ILO Convention No. 111 in China in order to achieve equal employment opportunity and treatment for all workers. The project will build the capacity of ILO contituents and other social partners to promote equality at work, endeavor to improve laws and policies, labour contracts and enterprise level agreements to promote the application of fundamental principles and rights with an emphasis on non-discrimination and equality, and establish a knowledge base for knowledge and information sharing on non-discrimination.
