    The global unemployment rate for young people has risen to its highest recorded level, and is expected to continue increasing until the end of 2010, a new report issued by the International Labour Organization (ILO) says.

  3. Go for the Goal: End Child Labour

    The International Labour Organization (ILO) and The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) launch the advocacy campaigns for this year’s World Day against Child Labour today in Beijing, China. The theme for 2010 World Day against Child Labour is “Go for the Goal: End Child Labour”. Some 62 countries worldwide join the campaigns and launch various events, seeking to promote awareness and action to tackle child labour.

  5. ILO launches the second phase of collaborative project to prevent labour and sexual trafficking in China

    (ILO Beijing) ILO and the All-China Women Federation (ACWF) have been working in close partnership over the last four years to reduce the trafficking of women and children for labour exploitation. With the support of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the ILO is proud to launch the second phase of its Project to Prevent Trafficking for Labour Exploitation in China (CP-TING – Phase II) in Beijing on 17 March 2010.

  1. The first targeted HIV/AIDS prevention campaign in China featuring migrant workers for their hometown fellows

    Some 700,000 people are living with HIV in China, according to the Ministry of Health. Over half of them contracted the virus through sexual activities. The government is increasingly placing great emphasis on protecting rural migrant workers from HIV infection to help prevent HIV from shifting from so-called high-risk populations to the general public.

  3. Emergency Start and Improve Your Business (E-SIYB) Project: getting people back to work through re-starting and starting businesses

    As part of a wider UN response to the earthquake, the ILO focuses on livelihoods recovery, under the broad theme of ‘helping people to get back to work’. Responding to a Government request, the ILO, with financial support by the UK Department for International Development, will provide targeted assistance to re-establishing at least 1,000 destroyed small businesses and setting up 700 new ones for those who lost their jobs.

    Southeast Asian children and young people exposed to the risks of human trafficking are raising their voices demanding a greater say in national and sub-regional action to prevent the labour and sexual exploitation that result from trafficking.
