ILO/ACFTU Seminar on Labour Protection for Women Workers was successfully organized on 6 December 2012 in Beijing. The Seminar aimed to safeguard women workers’ labour rights and promote gender equality at work through improving legislation and strengthening enforcement at national and local levels.

SHANGHAI (ILO News) -- ILO/ACFTU Seminar on Labour Protection for Women Workers was successfully organized on 6 December 2012 in Beijing. The Seminar aimed to safeguard women workers’ labour rights and promote gender equality at work through improving legislation and strengthening enforcement at national and local levels.

The Seminar was one of the project activities of the MDG-F Project on Child Nutrition and Food Safety, which is jointly implemented by the ILO and the ACFTU. This event was a policy intervention measure taken by the project to promote maternity protection and gender equality in the workplace. Participants from government agencies, ACFTU and local trade unions had very active discussion with national and international experts regarding the implementation of the new National Regulations on Labour Protection for Women Workers. Meanwhile, the recommendations on the follow-up actions have been made including: 1) areas for further improvement in the legislation; 2) areas to be covered by the implementation guidelines of the “Regulation”; 3) measures to be taken to balance protection and equality measures.

Through the meeting, the ILO has defined future cooperation with Chinese constituents and other social partners for advancing gender equality in the world of work in China.
