Mekong Children's Forum on Human Trafficking: making history - people, process and participation

Report on the process and outcome of the Mekong Children's Forum on Human Trafficking and a separate report back to the young delegates from five countries who took part.

The first major activity under Voices of Children was a series of national and provincial children’s forums in August and September 2004. These penultimate events were the forerunners to the sub-regional Mekong Children’s Forum on Human Trafficking held in Bangkok in October 2004. These national/provincial forums were organized in Cambodia, China (joint forum for Yunnan and Guangxi Provinces only), Lao PDR, Thailand (far northern provinces only) and Viet Nam.

The children who participated in these forums were given the opportunity to share their views and knowledge on human trafficking and discuss their suggestions with ministers and senior Government officials involved in the fight against trafficking.National media were also invited to present the children’s recommendations and dialogue with officials to the public at large.
