    Buyers Forum Established

    16 December 2014, Islamabad

    The two days buyers meeting organised by the joint collaboration of the Government of Netherlands, International Finance Corporation and the International Labour Organisation to Promote Decent Work for the Sustainability of Textile and Garment Sector in Pakistan concluded with the establishment of a Buyers Forum for Pakistan. With an initial membership of 17 brands, this forum is expected to be extended to other major international brands. This initiative will support enhancing access to global markets and increased market share. Furthermore it aimed at promoting advocacy on the nexus between trade and employment and in particular compliance to ILS leading to the realisation of the full benefits of GSP Plus status

    On 15th December 2014, the Ministry of Overseas Pakistani’s and Human Resource Development (OP-HRD) in collaboration with the Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP) and Pakistan Workers Federation (PWFF) and the ILO launched the country’s first Decent Work Country Profile which provides a comprehensive analysis on the status of decent work and gaps to be addressed . The profile covers the data period 2002-2013.

    ILO initial estimates reveal 800,000 workers affected by Hagupit; stands ready to assist through emergency employment

    10 December 2014, Manila, Philippines

    The ILO estimates 800,000 workers have been affected by Typhoon Hagupit, locally known as Ruby, with their source of livelihood damaged or disrupted overnight. In response, the ILO stands ready to allocate US$1.5 million and to support the government through emergency employment and sustainable livelihood.
