    The International Labour Office is disappointed to learn that the Cambodian Appeals Court has upheld the lower court’s verdict against Thatch Saveth. In February 2005 Thatch Saveth was found guilty of the murder of Ros Sovannareth, a trade union leader, in May 2004.

  1. ILO global employment trends report 2009 - unemployment, working poor, vulnerable employment to increase dramatically due to global employment crisis

    The global economic crisis is expected to lead to a dramatic increase in the number of people joining the ranks of the unemployed, working poor and those in vulnerable employment, the International Labour Office (ILO) says in its annual Global Employment Trends report (GET).

  2. Successful ways of preventing avian & human influenza in Thailand to be discussed - Project to be extended to Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Viet Nam

    Successful techniques for preventing the spread of avian and human influenza among Thailand’s poultry workers, farmers and small and medium-sized enterprises will be discussed at a workshop in Bangkok on Tuesday 20 January 2009.

    To promote the safety and health of Cambodian workers, the ministry through its supporting department of occupational safety and health has developed the first OSH master plan 2009-2013 with the technical support of the ILO.

  4. The work of the ILO in Cambodia

    Cambodia joined the ILO in 1969, the same year that the Organization was honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize. Sadly the country was embroiled in war in Southeast Asia at this time, and would soon experience the genocidal destruction of the Khmer Rouge regime. With the end of the Cold War in the early 1990s, the UN assisted Cambodia in its transition to a democratic society, and the ILO’s work in the country began during this period. This publication discusses some of the work accomplished by the Government and people of Cambodia over these past 17 years.

  5. Statement from the International Labour Office on the release of men convicted for murder of Cambodian trade unionist

    The International Labour Office welcomes the decision by the Supreme Court of Cambodia to release Born Samnang and Sok Sam Oeun on bail. The two men were convicted of the 2004 murder of the trade union leader Chea Vichea.
