  1. Support to Development of ASEAN Guidelines on Portability of Social Security Benefits for Migrant Workers

    ILO’s TRIANGLE in ASEAN is supporting the ASEAN Committee on Migrant Workers to develop ASEAN Guidelines on Portability of Social Security Benefits for Migrant Workers. The process is led by the Cambodia Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training with support from the ASEAN Secretariat and the ILO. The year-long process involves a series of consultations and training activities.

  2. Ensuring Decent Work and Reducing Vulnerabilities for Women and Children in the Context of Labour Migration in Southeast Asia

    The project which is also known as the “Protection of the Rights of Women and Children in Labour Migration” project (PROTECT) aims to protect the rights of women migrant workers and migrant children in South-East Asia. Funded by the European Union, PROTECT is a joint project implemented by ILO, UN Women, UNICEF and UNODC. ILO is responsible for leading and coordinating the project.

  1. Bangladesh Government and ILO partner to support returning migrant workers’ re-integration into the labour force

    The Government of Bangladesh, through the Economic Relations Division (ERD) in the Ministry of Finance today signed an agreement with ILO for a project that will enhance policies, capacities, and systems for inclusive and sustainable reintegration of migrant workers. The project is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)

    In 2023 the ILO TRIANGLE in ASEAN programme conducted a study about the skills and working conditions of migrant domestic workers in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, the findings from which were published in the report Skilled to care, forced to work? Recognizing the skills profiles of migrant domestic workers in ASEAN amid forced labour and exploitation. This study asked 1,200 migrant domestic workers about care to persons with disabilities and about protection if they themselves acquire a disability. The study also surveyed 600 employers. This brief is based on the study’s findings.

    The TRIANGLE in ASEAN programme conducts applied research on key labour migration issues within South-East Asia to build the knowledge base and advocate for changes to policy and practice. Core to the Programme’s research strategy are studies of working conditions in targeted sectors which identify key gaps in protection of migrants’ labour rights and are used to shape the design of interventions.
