In 2020, a study was initiated on selected manufacturing sub-sectors to map high-impact opportunities for green growth, where the energy and textile/garment sectors were identified for further study to assess the policy readiness and opportunities for promoting green jobs including through economic diversification in the context of a just energy transition. Zooming in at state level, detailed analysis in Jharkhand will generate insights into green jobs development opportunities and challenges. Building on the findings, ILO and UNIDO will work together on the development of transformative roadmaps to facilitate a just transition for greening the selected sub-sectors. ILO under PAGE will also be working with UNEP and the Ministry of Rural Development on incorporating sustainability into rural development schemes and programmes, with a focus on creating green jobs.
