ILO Office for Turkey Supports Small Enterprises
The International Labour Organization (ILO) Office for Turkey provides financial support of 11 million TRY in total through two schemes to micro-small enterprises, including particularly tradesmen, in order to contribute to responses to the economic and social impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the two support schemes, “Kırtasiyeci Esnafı Destek Programı (Support to Stationery Shop-owners)” is implemented in cooperation with the Directorate-General for International Labour Force (DG-ILF) of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, and provides financial support of 6 million TRY in total to enterprises in the stationery retail sector. In the provinces of Ankara, Istanbul, Bursa, Konya, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Adana, Mersin, Hatay, Izmir, Kahramanmaraş, Eskişehir, Denizli and Ordu, the plan is to provide 1,200 shop-owners with 5,000 TRY each in non-repayable financial support.
The second scheme, “İşime Devam Ediyorum (I Am Maintaining My Business)”, is designed to help Syrians under Temporary Protection and International Protection holders/applicants in Turkey, is implemented jointly by the ILO Office for Turkey and Human Development Foundation (INGEV). The plan is to provide 5,000 TRY per small enterprise of financial support to 1,000 small enterprises owned or partnered by refugees operating in the provinces of Istanbul, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Adana, Mersin, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş and Izmir.
The schemes aim to produce positive outcomes for the targeted small enterprises, in areas of partially compensating for loss of revenues, supporting business continuity, preventing loss of employment and ensuring general working conditions and occupational safety and health at workplace.
The Programmes are implemented under the scope of “Decent Work Opportunities for Refugees and Host Communities in Turkey” project funded by the United States Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (USBPRM) and “Job Creation and Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Syrians under Temporary Protection and Host Communities in Turkey” project funded by the European Union.
