ILO’s Statement on Protection of Safety and Health of Workers during COVID-19 Pandemic

ILO Office for Turkey released a statement on recommendations and measures to minimise the potential impact of COVID-19 on occupational safety and health.

ANKARA – The International Labour Organization (ILO) Office for Turkey released a statement on recommendations and measures to minimise the potential impact of COVID-19 on occupational safety and health.

The text of “Statement of ILO Office for Turkey on Protection of Safety and Health of Workers during Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic” emphasises the importance of social dialogue while underlining the responsibilities of employers and workers and what measures to take against COVID-19.

Elaborating on the statement, Mr. Numan Özcan, Director of the ILO Office for Turkey, said: “Governments, workers’ and employers’ organisations have a crucial role in combating the pandemic to ensure the safety of workers and sustain jobs and businesses.”

Noting that virus was expected to impact public health as well as millions of people economically and socially, Mr. Özcan added: “It is critical that social dialogue be effectively used, workers’ and employers’ organisations participate in decision-making and take active roles in implementing anti-crisis policies to take effective measures swiftly at all levels.”
