Programmes and projects

Technical cooperation programmes and projects implemented are one of the main means of action to support constituents in promoting decent work in the African region and to give effect to the Decent Work Agenda in Africa 2007-15.

Since 2002, a total of 560 technical cooperation programmes and projects have been approved for the African region, with a total budget of US$545.2 million. Practically all countries in the region have benefited from such interventions. As of December 2011, there were 205 active technical cooperation projects being managed by the ILO in the African region.

  4. Upgrading Water and Sanitation Systems Incorporating Skills-Based Training and Employment for Youth in Ebola Affected Slum Communities

    The project aims to strengthen resilience and promote economic stabilization and recovery in vulnerable slum communities by providing expanded access to safe drinking water and environmental sanitation and creating employment and business opportunities for youth and women.

  5. UN Partnership to Promote the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD) Promoting Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Ethiopia

    The UNPRPD project aims at promoting social inclusion of persons with disabilities in Ethiopia by achieving the following two outcomes in partnership with concerned government ministries, Disabled Persons Organizations (DPOs), civil society organizations and the media.

    The International Labour Organization’s (ILO’s) Project on Sustainability and Employment in the Building and Construction Industry subsists as a component of the larger UKAID funded UN joint programme in strengthening adaptation and resilience to climate change in Kenya in support to low carbon climate resilient development for poverty reduction in Kenya.
