The workshop stemmed from the Road Map of the tripartite Labour Law Reform Advisory Council which identified capacity building of stakeholders involved in the labour law reform process as a key element. The workshop was aimed at bringing stakeholders and labour law experts together to discuss and fuse areas of common interest and identify areas of difference in the labour law harmonization and reform process. The recommendations from the workshop together with the position papers from the tripartite partners will form the basis of further negotiations by the tripartite Labour Law Reform Advisory Council which has the mandate to guide the law reform process.

The Workshop was held at Carribea Bay, Kariba, Zimabbwe in line with the objectives of the ILO/UNDP Project on Strengthening of Social Dialogue and Tripartite Cooperation in Zimbabwe which is focused on the revival of the Tripartite Negotiating Forum (TNF). The meeting was held as a follow-up to the official launch of the Kadoma Declaration “Towards a shared national social and economic vision” by the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe on 26 February 2010.

More than 150 High Level Representatives of Governments, Workers’ and Employers’ Organizations, and the civil society – gathered from 11-12 April 2011 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - adopted a comprehensive roadmap for the implementation of a Regional Strategy (hyperlink) for Employment for Peace in the Horn of Africa.
