  11. Towards a Malawian Social Protection Floor: Assessment of Social Protection Programmes in Malawi

    This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the current social protection expenditure in Malawi in terms of its sustainability, robustness, efficiency and effectiveness in preventing or reducing poverty and social exclusion. It examines existing non-contributory social protection interventions operating in Malawi under the framework of the Malawi National Social Support Programme, gathering evidence on their impact, cost effectiveness, sustainability and complementarities. It provides an analysis of the current structure of social expenditure and the development of recommendations on how to redirect its resources to the most effective areas and reducing expenditure on less effective activities.
