  6. International Labour Organization (ILO) Assistant Director General and Regional Director for Africa, Ms. Cynthia Samuel-Olonjuwon arrives in Zambia today to attend the annual Retreat for ILO Directors in Africa which will be held in Lusaka from 18 to 20 January 2023.

    Prior to the Retreat, which is being held under the theme: ‘Delivering of the 2019 Abidjan Declaration for ILO constituents in Africa and implementation of the Global Coalition on Social Justice’, Ms. Samuel-Olonjuwon will hold high-level meetings with the Government and Tripartite partners among them; the Zambia Federation of Employers (ZFE) and the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU).

  8. Social Protection Week takes place in Mozambique with ILO support

    Between 21 and 27 November 2022, the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Action (MGCAS) of Mozambique organized the 11th consecutive annual Social Protection Week under the theme “Investing in social protection is investing in human capital.” The event received, as in previous years since the 1st Social Protection Week in 2012, technical and financial support of the ILO through the United Nations Joint Programme on Social Protection (UNJP-SP), financed by Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, and the Foreign & Commonwealth Development Office of the United Kingdom. It aims at giving visibility to social protection and serve as a space for debate and reflection for stakeholders, from national institutions to development partners, to civil society organizations and the public.

  9. OIT Moçambique apoia formação TRANSFORM sobre protecção social para o Ministério da Economia e Finanças

    O Ministério da Economia e Finanças de Moçambique (MEF), com o apoio técnico e financeiro da OIT, deu hoje início a uma aplicação de três dias do pacote TRANSFORM para decisores políticos, que está a decorrer no distrito de Boane (Província de Maputo) entre 14 e 16 de Novembro de 2022. Esta formação está a ser apoiada pelo programa IrishAid-ILO "Crescimento Inclusivo, Protecção Social e Emprego", bem como pelo Programa Conjunto das Nações Unidas para a Protecção Social 2017-2023, financiado pelas embaixadas da Finlândia, Holanda, Suécia e pelo Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office do Reino Unido. O MEF solicitou o apoio da OIT para reforçar as capacidades e competências institucionais de 24 de seus técnicos superiores e aumentar os seus conhecimentos sobre protecção social, equipando-os para melhor enfrentarem os desafios existentes no planeamento, orçamentação, e implementação da protecção social em Moçambique. Ao fazê-lo, o objectivo é apoiar um sistema de protecção social mais eficaz e eficiente em Moçambique e, em última instância, contribuir para um maior espaço fiscal para o sector da protecção social, permitindo a extensão da cobertura, maior adequação, e melhor acesso.

  10. ILO Mozambique supports TRANSFORM training on social protection for Ministry of Economy and Finance

    The Ministry of Economy and Finance of Mozambique (MEF), with ILO’s technical and financial support, kicked off today a three-day application of the TRANSFORM package for policymakers, which is taking place in Boane district (Maputo Province) between 14 and 16 November 2022. This training is being supported by the IrishAid-ILO programme “Inclusive Growth, Social Protection and Jobs” as well as the United Nations Joint Programme on Social Protection 2017-2023, funded by the embassies of Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden and the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom. MEF requested ILO’s support for building the institutional capacities and skills of 24 senior technicians and enhance their knowledge and awareness on social protection, equipping them to better address existing challenges in the planning, budgeting, and implementation of social protection in Mozambique. By doing so, the goal is to support a more effective and efficient social protection system in Mozambique and ultimately contribute to increased fiscal space for the social protection sector, enabling coverage extension, increased adequacy, and better access.
