The ILO, in collaboration with the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), is supporting the implementation of the government’s Digital Ghana Agenda with the digitalization of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system. A total of ten Technical Education and Vocational Training (TVET) institutions are being assisted in the transition of teaching and learning to online environments.

In 2020, SKILL-UP Ghana, a project member of the ILO Global Programme on Skills and Lifelong Learning (GPSL3) and funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), facilitated training of 10 tutors from selected training institutions on TVET digitalization. The E-Learning Lab on Digital TVET, a practical training organized in July and October of 2020 by ITC/ILO training center in Turin, provided the 10 selected tutors with the skills to convert training materials into online training content and to carry on distance learning programmes.

The ILO’s SKILL-UP Ghana project is committed to the expansion of the digitalization of teaching and learning in Ghana’s Technical Vocation and Education (TVET) system. The ILO’s SKILL-UP Ghana project is committed to the expansion of the digitalization of teaching and learning in Ghana’s Technical Vocation and Education (TVET) system. The project supports CTVET and the Asuansi Technical Institute in the diffusion of the knowledge acquired by participants at the ITC/ILO practical training.

The role of technical education and training in propelling the economy and addressing youth unemployment is being gradually recognized in Ghana. An increased number of enrolments prompted the Asuanti Technical Institute to advance off campus learning, shifting from a traditional to an online training offer. SKILL-UP worked with the institution, selected by CTVET for its leading role, in the organization and delivery of training on the digitalization of teaching and learning for 102 tutors. This training program, initiated on September 7 and completed on October 28, 2021 is estimated to benefit around 2000 students.

In continuation of project activities, SKILL-UP Ghana project will support CTVET and the Asuansi Technical Institute in the development of a practical guide to assist all technical institutes in the digitalization of teaching and learning.
