The role of business in times of crises and transition

In a climate where the role of business can be preceived with some scepticism, the story of how some key individuals and businesses intervened at critical moments in the South Africa's transition to democracy is often overlooked. In 2019 the ILO and the University of Pretoria's Centre for Mediation in Africa/ Department of Political Sciences embarked on a project to capture this story through video interviews that are now available on a specially hosted website. An accompanying report is also available.
This archive is particularly relevant to today where once again business is playing a key role in the country's efforts to manage the COVID-19 pandemic. A panel discussion will focus on the current role of business in these efforts and in particular, how the COVID 19 crisis can be utilised to bring greater equity, fairness and inclusion to a post pandemic South Africa.
