INWORK Policy Brief No. 6

Nothing more permanent than temporary? Understanding fixed-term contracts

The increasing recourse to fixed-term contracts of employment warrants greater understanding of the reasons and consequences of their use for enterprises, workers, and labour markets.

This policy brief highlights the most important findings of recent analysis of this topic and reviews international, regional and national legal frameworks for regulating fixed-term contracts. In doing so, this brief draws on the ILO's comparative advantage of combining economic research with labour law expertise, especially in the area of employment protection legislation.
