Vanuatu - Cyclone Pam - ILO response

ILO to coordinate and implement technical assistance as part of the national recovery and reconstruction phase in Vanuatu - Post Cyclone Pam

The ILO is working with the UN system, through the Pacific Humanitarian Team in coordinating and implementing technical assistance, primarily as part of the national recovery and reconstruction phase.

The ILO has been included as one of the joint implementing partners in the Flash Appeal: Emergency Response Plan for Vanuatu Tropical Cyclone Pam, March - June 2015.

The ILO has made available initial funding to locate a short-term ILO Official in Vanuatu, and experts who will work with the Livelihoods and Employment Cluster to launch initial work in support of small- scale and community contractors to be involved in the recovery and reconstruction efforts - thereby maximizing local job creation.

ILO Japan Social Safety Nets Fund project plans to support the ILO’s medium term response and in particular activities for developing small-scale community and private contractors to increasingly take part in the reconstruction process with the aim to create more local employment and income and boost the local economy. The proposed project will initiate local job generation through established and capacitated local contractors involved with the repair and rehabilitation of infrastructure and environmental and community assets. We will regularly update this page as more initiative are launched.
