Training package in occupational safety and health for the construction industry - Model courses

Instructional material | 01 June 2010
There are four main groups involved in the construction industry: workers, clients, contractors, and design and project management teams. The four model courses illustrate how elements of the theme summaries, PowerPoint presentations and the knowledge base can be combined to produce a course tailored to suit the needs of each of the groups. In particular, the courses have been developed on a modular basis and each module draws its information from one or more of the theme summaries.

The construction industry presents an extensive and complex arena for tutors. When designing a course tutors will be presented with participants with widely differing requirements. So although OS&H is designed around the four main industry groups it has not been designed with four distinct programmes. There is significant overlap between the elements of the package that can be presented to participants on each type of course.

The course literature for the four model courses offered below includes a comprehensive course handbook which is a consolidation of the large collection of documents handed out during the course. These documents include PowerPoint presentation print offs, the course summary, a quiz, a contract, a groupwork project, evaluation form and a post-course follow up form (to establish how much of the course is being put to use).
