Gabriel Bordado identifies three key challenges to skills development in the region: the demographic dividend, the large informal economy and the increasing number of migrant workers. There are 32 million migrant workers in the South Asia region, 14 million of which are from India. India also has the largest share of workers in the informal sector, accounting for nearly 92% of its workforce. He says that sustainable skills development is key to tackle unemployment and help formalize the economy.
