International labour standards

Seminar-workshop on international labour standards

The ILO aims to ensure that it serves the needs of working men and women by bringing together governments, employers and workers to set labour standards, develop policies and devise programmes.

Since the Philippines' ratification to the ILO core Conventions, it has achieved several milestones in advancing the interest of labour and in participating with the ILO's activities. The following laws and issuances were enacted/issues: (a) Industrial Peace Act of 1953 or the Magna Carta of Labour; (b) Presidential Decree No. 422 of 1974 or the Labor Code of the Philippines; (c) Republic Act No. 9481 or the Act Strengthening the Worker's Constitutional Right to Self-Organization; and (d) Proclamation No. 1974 declaring April 21 to May 1, 2009 as International Labour Organization Week.
