1. Users Training on Child Labour Knowledge Sharing System (CLKSS) for the Provincial Child Labour Committees

   1 September 2011

   The establishment of a multi-level functional system on child labour is one of the strategy directions under the Philippine Program Against Child Labor (PPACL) Strategic Framework for 2007-2015. The IPEC Programme, through its strategy on knowledge management, will build the capacities of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), National Child Labor Committee (NCLC), and other relevant government agencies and social partners has helped develop a system that would facilitate the utilization of data especially in support of national and local child labour policy development and programme design, implementation, and evaluation. This system is what we call the Child Labour Knowledge Sharing System (CLKSS).

2. Unveiling of Commemorative Marker of Birthing Station in Unisan, Quezon

   1 September 2011

   The Inter-agency Programme to Nurture Peace, Security and Decent Work through Local Development in Conflict Areas of the Philippines (Bondoc LED) identified maternal and child health care as a support component to pursue and ensure long-term economic productivity in Bondoc Peninsula. The event will officially unveil the commemorative marker of a birthing station in Unisan, Quezon.

3. Turn-over Ceremony of Birthing Station

   1 September 2011

   Turn-over of the birthing station constructed in Mulanay, Quezon. The Inter-agency Programme to Nurture Peace, Security and Decent Work through Local Development in Conflict Areas of the Philippines (Bondoc LED) supports upgrade, renovation or construction of birthing stations; training of midwives and Barangay Health Workers on Maternal and Child Health Care (MCHC) and provision of basic equipment for the birthing stations to improve access to better health facilities by mothers and children in the area. The support is a contribution of the project to the Philippine Government’s effort to reduce the infant mortality and improve maternal and child health care under its commitment to the Millennium Development Goal for 2015.

4. Direct Beneficiaries Monitoring and Reporting Training for Implementing Agencies

   31 August - 2 September 2011

   To enable the selected implementing agencies to effectively and efficiently implement their action programmes with particular attention being paid to high quality data on the direct beneficiaries, the project team has requested support to organize a workshop on Direct Beneficiaries Monitoring and Reporting (DBMR) for its partners to prepare them for the action programme implementation, monitoring, and reporting.

5. Training on Maternal and Child Health Care for Barangay Health Workers of San Narciso, Quezon

   31 August - 2 September 2011

   The Barangay Health Workers (BHW) training on Maternal and Child Health Care (MCHC) aims to enhance local capacity to assist in Public Health service delivery particularly on women’s health and safe motherhood which is an important component in reducing maternal and child morbidity and mortality. The first level MCHC service delivery occurs at the barangay hence the role of “trained BHW” is also essential for the success of MCHC programme.

6. ILO-Silliman University (SU) knowledge corner partnership

   25 August 2011

   The International Labour Organization (ILO) opened knowledge corners in schools, universities, and public libraries in the Philippines. Through a partnership with the ILO and Silliman University (SU), the first knowledge corner was established on 25 August 2011 in the Visayan region of the Philippines.

The first level MCHC service delivery occurs at the barangay hence the role of “trained BHW” is also essential for the success of MCHC programme.

8. Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Contingency Planning Workshop

   23 - 26 August 2011

   Poor families and communities in the Bondoc project sites are vulnerable due to their exposure to several risks such as climate-induce hazards, armed conflict and unstable sources of income and livelihoods. Local governments and communities also need help in coping with and mitigating the negative impacts of natural disasters.

    First Philippine Green Jobs Conference

    The ILO recognizes that growth has to happen within the bounds of responsible stewardship of the environment. With the theme: “Promoting Green Jobs and Decent Work towards Inclusive Growth,” the ILO supports the conference through the Green Jobs in Asia project, funded by the Australian Government.

    KA JAM: Kabataan (Youth) Jobs and Alternatives to Migration

    In line with the International Youth Day celebration, the MDG F Joint Programme on Alternatives to Migration: Decent Jobs for Filipino Youth is organizing an event titled “Kabataan: Jobs and Alternatives to Migration” or KA JAM. It will serve as a platform for the presentation of the key youth employment and migration priorities to His Excellency President Benigno Aquino III who will be the Keynote Speaker.

12. International Day of the World’s Indigenous People

    9 August 2011

    On August 9, the indigenous peoples globally will celebrate the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People under the theme “Indigenous designs: celebrating stories and cultures, crafting our own future”. The celebration in the Philippines will focus on indigenous women under the theme “Kapayapaan, Kasarinlan, Karapatan para sa Katutubong Kababaihan (Peace, Freedom, Rights for Indigenous Women)”.

13. Training on Generate Your Business Ideas

    8 - 11 August 2011

    Rapid Economic Appraisals of the Inter-agency Programme to Nurture Peace, Security and Decent Work through Local Development in Conflict Areas of the Philippines (Bondoc LED) project site revealed the need for entrepreneurial knowledge, attitude and skills of partner communities. The situation was further confirmed in a validation workshop with the partner communities, representatives from the private sector and local governments in the project site. The GYB training intends to create entrepreneurial awareness among partner communities in Bondoc Peninsula, Quezon Province. The training will involve the PUNLA sa Tao Foundation and partner communities.

14. Philippine Employment Projections (PEP) Follow-up Workshop/Seminar

    8 - 12 August 2011

    The Philippine Employment Project Model (PEPM) is a model of basic to intermediate complexity at this stage. It is developed using the STATA software, and based on the Inforum-ILO Trends approach. An initial ILO workshop, held last November 2010, fulfilled its objectives by increasing the participants’ knowledge and understanding of employment projection models, familiarising them with the STATA code for the Philippines model, and providing them with the capacity to modify the model’s assumptions in order to produce alternate scenarios and simulations. As a follow-up of the initial workshop, the Institute for Labor Studies collaborated with IDEA and made use of the PEPM to make employment projections, which can be used for the Philippine Development Plan. Further, the ILO CO-Manila office made use of the model to make vulnerable employment projections by sex, age and by economic sector.

16. Learning mission to Climate Change Adaptation Project sites

    26 - 29 July 2011

    The ILO together with partners of the Climate Change Adaptation Project (CCAP) will host the Millennium Development Goals-Achievement Fund 1656 Joint Programme Management Committee, National Steering Committee Meeting and Learning Mission to project sites in Agusan del Norte. The event will feature site visits to production farms and enterprises, as an opportunity for interaction and dialogue with farmers and implementing teams of local governments, partnerfinancial service providers. These include the Peoples Bank of Caraga, and Baug Multipurpose Cooperative who are partners of the CCAP. The site visits will cover three of the CCAP priority areas in RemediosRomualdez, Jabonga and Las Nieves.

17. Green Jobs Training and Greener Business Forum - Philippines

    The Greener Business Asia and Green Jobs in Asia, two projects currently being implemented in the Philippines by the ILO, has conducted an initial capacity building training package for ILO constituents, entitled Foundation Training on Green Jobs and Greener Business Forum, from 19-21 July 2011 at the CSB Hotel in Manila.

19. Diagnostic Tool on Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining in the Filipino Export Processing Sector

    The ILO is creating global tools to enhance its constituents' capacity to promote freedom of association and collective bargaining in the rural and export processing sectors. A diagnostic tool will identify gaps in national law and practice; it will also identify opportunities and means available to the national tripartite constituents to take remedial action on freedom of association and collective bargaining rights in the export processing sector through a national plan of action.

20. Training on Inspection in the Application of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006

    11 - 14 July 2011

    The Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 draws together provisions of 68 maritime labour conventions and recommendations, dating back to the 1920s, setting minimum requirements on health, social security, work and rest hours, accommodation, recreation, food and other employment conditions affecting seafarers.
