Accident investigation for labour inspectors

Training on Accident Investigation for Labour Inspectors and Regional Managers

The ILO US Department of Labor projects on Building the Capacity of the Philippines’ Labour Inspectorate and SafeYouth@Work Project, shall be conducting a joint Training on Accident Investigation for Labour Inspectors, with participants from labour inspectors in all DOLE Regional Offices, selected lawyers from DOLE Regional Offices, and DOLE attached agencies relevant to the conduct of accident investigation.

The objectives of the workshop are: (a) to capacitate a core group of labour inspectors and selected DOLE officials specializing in conducting an accident investigation and case building on workplace accidents, who can be deployed by DOLE and who can coach and mentor other labour inspectors in the regions; and (b) to consult officials from DOLE involved in the conduct of investigations and case building on workplace accidents on recommended protocols, including inter-agency protocols and tools for the conduct of accident investigation.

The workshop will provide a strategic opportunity for the participants to review existing tools, protocols and procedures on the conduct of workplace accident investigations, with the involvement of labour inspectors and relevant DOLE officials. Outputs of the consultation will also help DOLE develop its strategy for advocating for the institutionalization of an inter-agency protocol on the conduct of accident investigations.
