The Promoting Effective Governance of Labour Migration from South Asia: The ILO South Asia Labour Migration Governance Project 2013–2016 booklet provides a brief overview of South Asia labour migration patterns and highlights key challenges for migration governance in the sub-region. It also provides an update on the status and key achievements of the ILO South Asia Labour Migration Governance Project upto December 2015.

The EU-funded ILO implemented South Asia Labour Migration Governance (SALM) project aims to promote well-managed labour migration from South Asia, to ensure the effective protection of the rights of the migrant workers, and to enhance the development impact of labour migration and reduce irregular flows. The project focuses on India, Nepal and Pakistan with selected activities in the Gulf destination countries to include Kuwait, Qatar and UAE.

This booklet presents the trends of labour migration from South Asia as well as the challenges for migration governance of the region. Highlighting the strategic approaches to address the challenges, the booklet presents the achievements of the SALM project till December 2015.
