Press release | Jakarta, Indonesia | 25 August 2016
JAKARTA (ILO News) - Key Indonesian labour actors representing government agencies, employer as well as worker representatives will gather for two days at the High-Level Tripartite Dialogue in Jakarta from 24-25 August 2016, to further discuss employment policies, industrial relations matters and social protection issues. These important labour issues are important for the commitment of Indonesia in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the Goal 8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Jointly hosted by the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower and the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Tripartite Dialogue is aimed to further promote the implementation of SDGs in the country. The Tripartite Dialogue also provides a venue for interactive discussion and knowledge sharing on global and regional best practices on labour and employment issues, particularly on employment, industrial relations and social protection issues.

Through this tripartite dialogue, it is expected that key recommendations and action plans will be jointly developed as a way forward and means to strengthen national level dialogue and to more concretely shape the Indonesian agenda for sustainable economic growth and decent work for all.

The Tripartite Dialogue is a follow-up to the Tripartite Conference titled “Indonesia’s Agenda for SDGs toward Decent Work for All”, which was held in Jakarta last February. The Conference concluded with the recognition of significant labour market challenges faced by Indonesia that should be addressed by the key labour actors in a comprehensive and holistic manner through social dialogue.

Focusing on three strategic issues of employment, industrial relations and social protection, the Tripartite Dialogue addresses key labour and employment issues for Indonesia, including:
  • Updates on SDGs indicators, data and monitoring as well as development of SDG Action Plan, particularly Goal 8;
  • Best practices in Asia and Pacific countries on workplace compliance promotion;
  • Best practices on social security and non-standard forms of work administration;
  • Best practices on wages and collective bargaining; and
  • International standards on social dialogue and freedom of association.
