2013

  1. Workshop by CIWCE to share the experience of establishing model workplaces and addressing Hazards child labour.

    20 February 2013

    Under the CACL II Project, 14 workplaces were improved as model workplaces that provide the venue for older children (15-17 years) to acquire trade skills as apprentices under safe working environment. The experiences of workplace improvement programme will be shared with the key stakeholders during this workshop.

  2. Training of Journalists on Gender Responsive Reporting - Rahim Yar Khan

    11 - 13 February 2013

    In line with GE4DE’s project objective 3: Strengthened capacity of media to raise awareness on issues related to working women. This training is part of a national level intervention to establish a cadre of journalists who will be trained to report on issues of world of work using rights based gender responsive approach.

  3. Dialogue on Portrayal of women in Media- Screening of Miss Representation

    9 February 2013

    This was the third successful screening of the highly acclaimed documentary ‘Miss Representation’ which explores how popular media contributes to the under-representation of women in influential positions by circulating limited and often disparaging portrayals of women. The audience consisted of representatives from advertisement agencies, studios, United Nations, Media and other tripartite partners. Well known media experts and influentials conduct dialogue.

  4. Orientation Session with the student and faculty of Greenwich University to produce short documentaries on child labour

    Under this programme, it is expected to raise interest and attract the future generation of media personnel at universities to be part of the movement against child labour and to mould them as activists from the studentship who will then take proactive actions to change the perceptions and attitudinal behavior of society when they join the labour force in future. For this purpose, the CACL II Project provides opportunities for the mass communication & media students (on academic merit) of selected universities to do research studies and to produce visual media products (video documentary, short films, etc.) on various aspects of child labour including its causes, consequences, and impacts on development issues such as poverty, education, law enforcement, socio-economic development, cultural barriers and social norms.

  1. Gender sensitisation training of Department of Labour officials

    22 December 2012

    A three days comprehensive gender sensitisation training of the officials of Departments of labour is planned in the last week of December. The purpose is to build the capacity of the DoLs for them to; i) Understand the importance of gender mainstreaming in the operations and the functions of the DoL ii) Recruit more women in the Directorate iii) Design gender mainstreamed programmes instead of exclusive women programmes iv) Understand and promote sustainable means of gender empowerment such as transport for women labour inspectors and conducive work environment and working conditions

  2. Career Counselling and Vocational Guidance Skills

    17 - 21 December 2012

    The 5-day capacity building workshop on Career Counselling and Vocational Guidance Skills for professionals, practitioners and service providers working in the field of career counselling and vocational guidance in Pakistan has been scheduled to be held in Karachi and Lahore. Participants will include officials from Punjab and Sind TEVTA, PVTC and private sector.

  3. Training of Management of Training Institutes (MoTI)

    17 - 22 December 2012

    A six day training course for selected Principals and Vice-Principals of TEVT Institutes in Punjab on “Management of Training Institutes” will be held. The purpose is to further enhance their capacity to align their training programs with the trends in the labour-market and adopt a result-oriented approach for future training activities.

  4. Capacity building of journalists on application of Journalism Plus at district level

    11 - 22 December 2012

    Series of trainings on gender responsive reporting for journalists were held in November, four 3-days training events are now planned for December, starting with Lahore and followed by Faisalabad, Mardan and Sialkot. The participants are bridged with ILO projects in the field for success stories. Trade union leaders, women from with in management at other tiers are invited to share the challenges they face and their achievments with the journalists to give them a representative picture of the status of women working in different parts of the economy and at different occupational tiers.

  5. Labour Department to Promote Safety at Workplace in Sindh

    Inorder to develop a Joint Action Plan on Workplace Safety and Health, the Government, Employers and Workers Organizations are coming together at a Consultation on "Promoting Workplace Safety & Health in Sindh" , organized by ILO at PC Hotel, Karachi on 6 December 2012

  6. Career Counselling and Vocational Guidance Skills

  7. Continued training of Karachi's, tragic factory fire victims in textile's value chain

    1 December 2012 - 28 February 2013

    ILO-GE4DE is training family members of the victims of tragic factory fire which claimed lives of hundreds of workers in Karachi, Pakistan in Sep 2012. The project is unique, as it guarantees the jobs of all trainees from the very first day of this training, mainly due to complete cooperation from the employers of textiles value chain in this city. Some 50 trainees are currently enrolled in ‘Machine Operator’ and ‘Quality Control’ courses.

  8. Public Service Message Campaign on Safe work

    1 - 30 December 2012

    A Public Service Message Campaign on Safe work is going to be launched in December. The month long campaign includes messages that will be broadcasted in selected Radio and Print mediums focusing on their outreach in Sindh primarily for employers and factory owners. It is expected that many of these employer organizations who did not know how to get registered will now get registered with the Department of labour as a result of this campaign thus enabling workers to avail Social Security and other facilities. The Public Service Messages are easy to understand and also shown as pictorial illustrations to encourage owners of small and medium enterprises to register. The campaign also aims to increase awareness of workers on safe work and occupational safety and health.

  9. Labour Market Information-Punjab

    28 November - 21 December 2012

    Training of core staff, of Punjab Labour Market Information and resource centre (Punjab LMIRC unit) has been organized. The training will cover key labour market indicators (KILM), hands on with micro-data tapes of labour force survey and Computation of KILM & skill indicators computation, data interpretation, analyses and report writing. The number of participants is 15 for this 19 days training.

  10. Labour Market Information for Skills Needs - Sindh

    27 November - 24 December 2012

    Training of core staff, research unit of Sindh TEVTA will be held. The training will cover key labour market indicators (KILM, hands on with micro-data tapes of labour force survey etc.

  11. Portrayal of women in media; a discussion with media on World TV day

    21 November 2012

    The discussion is aimed to lead to endorsement of media to increase positive portrayal of women in media and to acknowledge their contribution in the world of work. It will include discussion with academia on possible development of curricula designed in line with Journalism Plus. The award winning film, Miss Representation, about imaging women in media, will also be shown.

  12. Endorsement of Gender Responsive Labour Inspection Toolkit and Gender Mainstreaming in PC by Department of Labour Sindh

    19 November 2012

    In a meeting with Secretary Labour Sindh, negotiations on the drafting PC-1s were led forward. The secretary showed keen interest in a programme that looks at providing women with better working conditions and environment. Amongst various priorities; health vouchers and hostels exclusively for working women were discussed. ILO will provide technical assistance in the formulation of the PC-1 and feasibility studies where required. In the same meeting the Gender Responsive Labour Inspection Toolkit developed for mainstreaming gender across all work areas was endorsed for use during labour inspections.

  13. Launch of Skills Training programme for Livelihood Restoration of Fire Victims in Karachi

    ILO Pakistan, Department of Labour, Sindh and Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters' Association have jointly launched a skills training programme for the victims of the September factory fires in Karachi.

  15. Endorsement of Gender Responsive Labour Inspection Toolkit and Gender Mainstreaming in PC by Department of Labour Punjab

    In a meeting at the Industrial Relations Institute, Secretary Labour Punjab approved the PC-1 drafted by the Gender Focal Person in consultation with ILO on establishing day care facilities for working women to provide them a conducive work environment such that they continue to work productively as married working mothers. In the same meeting the Gender Responsive Labour Inspection Toolkit developed for mainstreaming gender across all work areas was endorsed for use during labour inspections. ILO will provide technical assistance to in the implementation of both the PC-1 and the GRLI roll out.
