Training of trainers towards flexible training approaches

The ILO project “Livelihood Restoration, Protection and Sustainable Empowerment of Vulnerable Peasant Communities in Sindh Province” (LRP) in collaboration with International Training Center (ITC-ILO) organized the first Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop on Training of Trainers towards Flexible Training Approaches at Indus Hotel Hyderabad. The training was attended by UN and government officials, trainers of Government and private vocational training institutions.

Hyderabad (ILO News) - The ILO project “Livelihood Restoration, Protection and Sustainable Empowerment of Vulnerable Peasant Communities in Sindh Province” (LRP) in collaboration with International Training Center (ITC-ILO) organized the first Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop on Training of Trainers towards Flexible Training Approaches at Indus Hotel Hyderabad. The training was attended by UN and government officials, trainers of Government and private vocational training institutions.

The objective of the workshop was to provide an opportunity to the participants to design training incorporating the instructional parameters from needs analysis to evaluation, with an emphasis on analysis and implementation and on flexible training methods.
Other key objectives of the training include:
1) understanding the learning and training cycle;
2) increasing trainers’ effectiveness in designing flexible learner-centered activities;
3) increasing trainers’ effectiveness in using participatory facilitation approaches;
4) understanding the importance of increasing the learning moralities by alternative ways of conducting training;
5) creating sustainable learning solutions;
6) developing team spirit and a community of practice.

The workshop was conducted by Mr Robin Poppe, Chief of learning and communication services, Mr Tom Wambeke, Senior Programme Officer Learning & training from International Training Centre Turin, Italy and Ms Shama Maqbool, National Project Coordinator LRP project. The main topics under discussion during the workshop included defining learning, training and the characteristics of adult learning, the learning management cycle, visual facilitation skills and flexible approaches such as workplace learning, coaching, and mentoring.

On the occasion, Mr Francesco d’Ovidio, ILO Country Director thanked the resource persons for sharing their valuable knowledge and expertise with the participants. He reiterated the ILO‘s commitment towards supporting various programmes aimed at promoting decent work in Pakistan. Earlier, in the welcome address, National Project Coordinator, LRP Project Ms Shama Maqbool highlighted the background, objectives and importance of the workshop. She was of the view that this activity will help efforts to improve capacity of participants in the area of flexible training approaches.

The LRP project is funded by United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS) and is being jointly implemented by FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), ILO (International Labour Organization) and UN WOMEN of the United Nations.
