    As part of the launch of the 2014 edition of the Red Card to Child Labour Campaign, the ILO commissioned aerial artist John Quiqley to create a giant image on Botafogo Beach in Rio de Janeiro that could be photographed from the air. More than one thousand volunteers, both young and old, came together to raise awareness of the 168 million child labourers worldwide by creating a colourful human pinwheel -- the symbol for the International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC).     Following the performance of the class choir and orchestra - Gabriel Peri School (France), ILO's Director-General, Guy Ryder, opened the International Steering Committee meeting of the International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC). He reminded the progress the ILO has made in the fight to eradicate the worst forms of child labour. ILO's Corinne Vargha (Branch Chief, Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work), Christina Behrendt (Social Policy Specialist) and Paula Montagner (Brazilian Ministry of Social Development) highlighted the importance of social protection in combating child labour.
