From 21 up to 24 March, a planning workshop took place of the South-South Cooperation Project on decent work in the cotton supply chain. This workshop brought together ILO Staff from Brazil, Mali, Mozambique, Paraguay, Peru and Tanzania to discuss the upcoming activities of this project in their respective countries. This ambitious project is supported by the Brazilian Government through its Brazilian Agency for Cooperation which was also present throughout the workshop.

The participants compared the decent work gaps in the cotton supply chain in their countries and learned from each other in terms of planned activities and strategies to achieve results. Activities at regional and international level were also discussed.

In Tanzania, the project has not yet been signed by the different parties but is at an advanced stage of development. Activities will focus on an improved enabling environment for the reduction of child labour as well as on an enhanced social protection system that will benefit cotton-sector workers.
