Orchestras, choirs and bands in harmony against child labour for the World Day in Milan
On 12 June, to mark the World Day and as part of the events planned around EXPO2015 “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, a morning Conference will be followed by a major concert of school and youth orchestras at Castello Sforzesco (the site of the first EXPO in 1906).
On 12 June, to mark the World Day and as part of the events planned around EXPO2015 “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, a morning Conference will be followed by a major Concert of school and youth orchestras at Castello Sforzesco (the site of the first EXPO in 1906). The Conference will be opened by the Minister of Agriculture, Maurizio Martina and Senator Luigi Berlinguer, former Minister of Education. This event, in support of the global Music Against Child Labour Initiative, is being organised by the Milano Classica orchestra together with the “Carnevalspettacolo” association, with the support of the Municipality of Milan and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the ILO. “Today Say NO to Child Labour” by Maria Olivero will be performed by different groups, the Suzuki Orchestra and by Sonohra.
A further conference to mark the World Day will take place on 14 June in San Pellegrino Terme (Bergamo) organised by the “Tavola della pace della Valle Brembana” association, in collaboration with the ILO, the Municipality of San Pellegrino, the “Accademia Carrara di Belle Arti di Bergamo”, and a number of other partners. Students of the Bergamo Arts Academy have created a game about child labour "Sulle ali dell'oca" based on the infinity sign of Michelangelo Pistoletto's "Il Terzo Paradiso". It will be built as a permanent structure in a park in San Pellegrino Terme and inaugurated with two graffiti on 14 June. There will also be exhibit of photos by Edoardo Gianotti from the ILO publication “The Sky above the Children.” A puppetry convention will take place in Bergamo on 13 June, at which a new puppet theatre play on child labour will be launched.
