Nearly 1.5 billion people live in countries where they face violence or “fragile” situations on a daily basis. Another 200 million people cope with the slow or sudden onset of disasters. Violence and catastrophic events undermine peoples’ livelihoods and create decent work deficits which, when ignored, lead to increased poverty, inequality and social unrest.
