Workshop on Sharing Experiences in Teaching and Researching Law on Persons with Disabilities among Law Schools

This workshop is aim to contribute to experiencing on teaching and learning related disability subjects and expressed desires to expand the subject on disability law among law universities and faculties to improve and enhance knowledge of future lawyers and judges on the rights of persons with disabilities.

Since 2011, in collaboration with Hanoi Law University (HLU), the module of Disability Law has been introduced and started to be taught in 2012 as an optional subject in the university. Up to date, more than 1,000 law students registered attended in the course on Disability Law which is considered a useful, interesting and profound humanity subject. Internship opportunities were provided to nearly 500 law students in collaboration with Disabled People’s Organization of Hanoi and non-governmental organizations for persons with disabilities.

In 2015, PROPEL provides support to HLU to organize a thematic workshop to share teaching and learning Disability Law and Disability Equality for people with disabilities with other law universities in the country. Around 70 law and policy experts from law universities and faculties, universities of education, social works and trade union from Hanoi, Hochiminh city, Hue, Dalat, Disabled People’s Organizations (DPOs) and persons with disabilities, experts from relevant ministries such as Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA), Ministry of Justice, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) actively participate in and contributed to experiencing on teaching and learning related disability subjects and expressed desires to expand the subject on disability law among law universities and faculties to improve and enhance knowledge of future lawyers and judges on the rights of persons with disabilities.

In additional, 03 scholarships for best theses on disability issues are provided to post graduated and graduated law students in 2015 to promote higher quality and quantity research activities on Disability rights issues and encourage more students and post-graduate students to study on this subject.

In 2015, PROPLE has also provided support to HLU to update the training materials with updating related case studies in the curriculum of Disability Law and disseminating updated materials to other law universities to integrate the subject of Disability Equality for people with disabilities in their teaching law curriculum.
